Favourite Fragrances

I don't wear perfume often but when I do I have 2 fragrances that I adore; both given to me by my beautiful sister.

Ghost Enchanted Bloom Eau de Toilette
Ghost Enchanted Bloom is lovely. It's very light and floral without being sickly sweet. In my opinion it's a gorgeous daily scent. I always feel pretty and fresh when wearing it. My only complaint is that it doesn't last as long as I would like. In maybe 4 hours you'll have to really put your nose to your wrist to be able to smell it. Although, on the other hand, when I do wear perfume, I hate perfumes that are overpowering; so Ghost is perfect for me in that way. It's subtle. Benefit in disguise? I think so.

The Ghost Enchanted Bloom moisturising body lotion is equally loved by me. It smells just as amazing as the Eau de Toilette and feels great on m skin - I love how quickly it absorbs. The moisturiser is something that I use far more often; I wouldn't wear perfume to school but I feel that the moisturiser is subtle enough to rub on my legs and get away with.

Ghost's product description:
"Ghost introduces its most romantic scent yet, Enchanted Bloom. The sensually feminine fragrance lets you discover your inner fantasy and escape to an enchanted and secluded place away from the worries of everyday life.

Enchanted Bloom opens with fresh, fruit and floral top notes of Violet Leaves, Cranberry & Bergamot.
The gentle heart blends notes of Jasmine and Waterlilly which combine with the romantic, dreamy accords of Freesia to create a long lasting feminine impression and captures the essence of the modern Ghost Woman.
As the fragrance develops to its fullest, sweet Peach Caviar and warm Amber envelopes and entices the senses as the final hint of musk lingers and takes you away to a place of enchantment."

Flora by Gucci Eau de Toilette
My other much loved perfume is Flora by Gucci. I feel like it's more mature and sophisticated so I only really wear it for special occasions. To me it also feels like more of an evening fragrance. It's got a beautiful deep floral scent; it's not sweet at all. It just smells like there are so many different elements to the fragrance, all undetectable on their own, but when they come together it's perfect. Flora lasts really long; everything about it is fantastic quality. In my opinion, it's just all round freaking amazing.

Gucci's product description:

"For the mademoiselle who seeks to grace herself with a fragrance that is an airy, sparkling, ethereal light.

-   a young and fresh flowery fragrance
 -   top notes of crunchy green accord
  -  heart notes of rose and osmanthus flower
   - base notes of sandalwood"

Who said you need somewhere to go to wear pretty perfumes? Sitting in my pajamas and smelling of Flora by Gucci sounds pretty amazing right now. :)

Winter Jackets

"We should stop at Blue Route and see if they have any nice jackets."

It's freezing in Cape Town, so after picking up a new disk of The Good Wife, mom and I went to have a look.

Why is it that whenever you are looking for something that you desperately need you can never find it; but when you aren't really trying to find something suddenly it is everywhere?

In Blue Route alone I found 3 gorgeous coats that I loved.

Mr. Price had a casual coat in a lovely winter burgundy that looked really nice on and had a little hood - very practical.

Double Pocket Parka Jacket - Mr. Price R159.99

While I didn't see it in store; I just saw on their website that Kumaro from Mr. Price has brought out a new linen parka jacket! Yay! I spotted their dusty pink linen parka jacket on their website weeks ago and fell in love - but couldn't find it anywhere. The same happened with their stone coloured linen parka that they brought out a week later. So crossing fingers that I'll find this one! I love the cut and the detail in the zips.

Linen Parka Jacket - Mr. Price R199.99

The jacket I decided on was a vibrant cobalt blue one from Fashion Express in Blue Route. I don't usually do bright colours but I thought that I needed something to cheer up my winter wardrobe with. Its got gorgeous big black buttons and I think I'll be able to make it look both smart and casual if I dress it down.  It's made from lovely thick material, is lined and very warm.

Fashion Express R320

So in 6 or so months time I am definitely not really going to need to find a matric dance dress. I have a lovely pair of pajamas that I could wear. But I'll just go and casually have a look... just to see if I see anything nice... before getting a DVD from Blockbusters. ;)

Blue Fingernails

I once found a page on Pinterest which convinced me that it would be a wonderful idea to put Vaseline on the skin around my nails to stop messes.

Bad idea! Logic says that if I can't keep nail polish off of my skin then I certainly can't keep Vaseline off of my nails.  The Vaseline got everywhere and I ended up with only a small splodge of polish in the very centre of my nails - nothing else would stick! Definitely not worth a try; just in case you were wondering... :)

It's the middle of winter here, which means that my toes haven't seen light for weeks, and considering I usually wear my bright, happy nail polish on my toes, I decided to give my fingers a chance to brighten up my life. :)

Suntra colour in Blue Look 53
I adore Suntra Colour nail polishes. They have a HUGE variety of shades and shines to choose from and if I can remember correctly - they are relatively inexpensive. (This one was from Pick 'n Pay).
I do 2 coats of polish; which seems to last pretty long without any chips. Beware, it does take a few minutes to dry fully though (I've got a fingerprint on my thumb nail from trying to check if it was still wet).

I had some fun and painted a little heart with a toothpick and Suntra colour's Redical 289 on my thumb. Just blob a dot on and then shape with the toothpick . :)

Happiness in under 2 minutes (minus drying time!).

Super Cool South African YouTubers

YouTube in SA is quickly growing. According to bizcommunity the YouTube visits in South Africa grew by 80% in 2012 and uploads in South Africa grew by 30%.

And while we may still have quite a way to go until we catch up with Europe, we have got some AMAZING channels!

 1. The gorgeous Caspar Lee is also smart, funny and very successful - he just hit 1 million subscribers this week! Yay! Caspar has done some hilarious vlog type videos and needless to say, has amazing hair. ;)

2. Derick Watts and the Sunday Blues are a comedy due that have really high quality videos. They have done some brilliant parodies and currently have almost 4 million views on their video "How Humans Eat Their Food". Nicholas and Gareth are geniuses.

3. Theodora Lee, Caspar's beautiful older sister, is just as funny and is definitely making a name for herself on YouTube. From what I'm seeing on Twitter, I also think that she may have a super exciting YouTube documentary project coming out soon! :D

4. Nerdzsquared are almost on 7000 subscribers and I am so sure that they are just going to go viral any moment now! They've done challenge videos, vlogs, comedy style videos and most recently a giving back video that will melt your heart. Subscribe to them now so that you can say you were hipster and knew them before they hit 1 million subscribers.

 5. She's indescribably funny. The Anne Hirsch Show.

6. Georgie Goullee is Theodora Lee's roommate and does witty comedy type videos. And although she only has 10 uploaded videos, I love them all!

7.  He's done loads of Dota 2 videos, unboxings and game reviews; so if gaming is your thing then Grant Hinds needs to be subscribed to. :)

8.Audio Visual Alchemy's videos are works of art - masterpieces. They've done many documentary style videos showing off various aspects of SA; coupling beautiful visuals with super cool sound. Definitely check them out!

I'm pretty proud to be South African right now.

Shopping Awkward.

Continuing with my little obsession with Awkward. and Jenna, Tamara, Ming and Sadie's wardrobes...

I thought that I'd do some virtual shopping! I love virtual shopping.

One of the things that I like about the Awkward. wardrobe is that they use clothes that actual teenagers would wear - this meant that I could virtually shop at a shop that actual teenagers shopped at!

In South Africa Mr. Price is a staple for most teenagers (and I see that they have just announced that their online store will now deliver anywhere in the world). With this in mind (and the fact that Mr. Price is pretty much the only place that I can do virtual shopping in SA), much of the clothes comes from them.

So, if I were to put myself into the gorgeous Awkward. characters' shoes, this is what I would wear:

 Shopping for Jenna's Awkward. look:

1. Side Stud Cheeky Shorts (Mr. Price) R99.99
2. Striped Hoodie (Mr. Price) R79.99
3. Colourblock Raglan T-shirt (Mr. Price) R59.99
4. Soviet L Michelle Sneakers Black (Zando) R239

Shopping for Tamara's Awkward. look:
1. Lace Fit and Flare Dress (Mr. Price) R119.99
2. Jewel Embellished Denim Jacket (Mr. Price) R189.99
3. Buckle Ankle Lace Up Boot (Mr Price) R179.99
4. Fold Over Satchel (Mr Price) R89.99
5. 2 Pack Printed Bow Headband (Mr. Price) R29.99

Shopping for Ming's Awkward look

1. Coloured Skinny Denim (Mr. Price) R119.99
2. Abstract Slouchy T-shirt (Mr. Price) R69.99
3. Padded Fleece Jacket (Mr. Price) R159.99
4.Floral Hi Top (Mr. Price) R59.99
5. Cat Beanie (Mr. Price) R49.99

Shopping for Sadie's Awkward. look:
1. Embellished Cadigan (Mr. Price) R119.992. Pussy Bow Shirt (Mr. Price) R69.99
3. Bodycon Mini Skirt (Mr. Price) R49.99
4. Faux Pearl Encased Studs (Mr. Price) R29.99
5. Plain Pump (Mr. Price) R59.99

I have no idea what American/European shop to compare Mr. Price to but South African girls will know what I'm talking about when I say that you never know what you might find. It's all about luck and timing!

This is one of the reasons that I love the online store, you can get a good idea of what is in stock and whether a trip to Mr. Price is worth it. But I would definitely say that if you find something online that you like, go and try it on in-store. Sometimes things just don't fit.

After finding some gorgeous clothes online today though, I think a trip is needed!
P.s Don't you love Tamara's boots?

 :)

Dressing Awkward.

When it comes to TV series my loyalty is questionable. I've dipped my toes into The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and House all in the past few weeks.

I devoured Awkward in 3 days.

That's not to say that it is any better than the brilliant shows above; but Awkward. has a teenage-girly-high-school charm that when coupled with 30 minute jam-packed episodes, just keeps you watching.

Among all the drama, I found a little episode that they put in with Season 2, entitled "Dressing Awkward". Nancy Ceo is BRILLIANT! The amount of thought that goes into each and every item of clothing/jewellery worn on that show is crazy!

In case you missed it, here is a little summary... :)

I really am going to try and pace myself in my consumption of Season 3; Season 4 looks quite far away!

:)
